Many water sources contain significant levels of dissolved iron salts. As per World Health Organisation (WHO) Specifications water is contaminated if it has over 0.3 ppm iron in it. The presence of iron cause reddish brown stains on utensils, ceramics, bathroom fittings, clothes, and home appliances thus reducing their life. Further it is also causes tissue damage, constipation and loss of’ appetite apart from fouling softener resins, reverse osmosis membranes and other water treatment equipments.
